Join us in Bath for a three-day interdisciplinary conference covering all aspects of European Studies, at which over 450 research papers will be presented.

Bath, located in the valley of the river Avon and only 90 minutes away of London by train, is known for its Roman-built bath, hot springs and grandiose Neo-Classical architecture crafted from Bath stone. A popular spa town in the Georgian era, this unique, beautiful and creative city became a World Heritage Site in 1987 and attracts more than one million staying visitors and 3.8 million day visitors each year.

The University of Bath is one of the leading higher education institutions in the United Kingdom for research, teaching and student satisfaction. Founded in 1966, it ranked 11th in the 2013 QS World University Rankings list “Top 50 Under 50”. With its research grant portfolio valued at over £125 million, the university prides itself on its vibrant and welcoming culture driven by the enthusiasm and invention of the academic community. A robust infrastructure supports the development of research, 87% of which deemed world-leading or internationally excellent in the latest research excellence framework (REF). The campus that overlooks the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage City, offers cutting edge teaching, recreation and sport facilities including a £10 million arts building called the Edge.

The Department of Politics, Languages and International Studies (PoLIS) is based in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Much of the Faculty’s research is interdisciplinary and cross-faculty at both staff and student levels. In conjunction with the university-wide Institute for Policy Research, the Faculty has a strong focus on European Studies, policy development and issues of social inequality, international security and migration. At the national level, the Faculty is currently a member of two doctoral training consortia funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (UK) and the Economic and Social Research Council (UK). Many PoLIS staff are internationally leading scholars in their field and publish regularly in the most highly ranked international journals.
