For the fifth time the German Society for Electoral Research (DGfW) awards the DGfW Research Prize and the DGfW Prize for Young Researchers for excellent analyses based on data of the
German Longitudinal Election Study (GLES).

The DGfW Research Prize emphasizes the importance of the GLES for analyses of political attitudes and voting behaviour. It will be awarded to publications that are outstanding in theory or
method, are based exclusively or primarily on data of the GLES and contribute to an improvement of the state of the art in research on voting and political attitudes. In case of comparative studies the data of the GLES should be of the same importance for the study as the data for other countries. Criteria to evaluate nominated works will be the originality and relevance of the research question as well as the quality of the analyses. Publications can be nominated by authors themselves or by other persons. Publications of members of the executive committee of the DGfW are excluded from being nominated. The DGfW Research Prize is awarded in two forms:

The DGfW Research Prize for articles takes papers into account that have been published in a scholarly journal or as a book chapter. This prize is endowed with € 500. In order to apply please
submit the nominated publication as pdf file.

The DGfW Research Prize for monographs is meant for published books (including doctoral dissertations published as monographs) in German or English. Edited volumes are not eligible for
nomination. It is endowed with € 1,000. In order to apply please submit the nominated book in two copies (the copies will be given back afterwards).

The DGfW Prize for Young Researchers is intended for outstanding qualification theses and emphasizes the importance of the GLES for the academic training of young social scientists. It will
be conferred to scientific qualification works (M.A. theses or equivalent) in German or English that are outstanding in theory and/or method and based exclusively or primarily on data of the GLES.

Self-nomination is not possible. The prize is endowed with € 250.

In order to nominate a qualification thesis please submit the following documents:

  • Qualification thesis as pdf file
  • Abstract of two pages maximum summarizing the thesis
  • CV of the author
  • Confirmation by the university or the supervisor that the proposed work is a thesis to achieve an academic degree (M.A. or equivalent). The confirmation should also include information about university regulations regarding length and allowed time for preparation.

Publications for the DGfW-Research Prize have to be published in the calendar year 2017. Grading for qualification theses has to be finalized during this period. The Executive Committee of the German Society for Electoral Studies (DGfW) will serve as jury for both DGfW Prizes (http://www.dgfw.info/en/executive-committee/).

Deadline for applications or nominations: 28 February 2018.
