The 2nd IPSA-HSE Summer School for Methods of Political & Social Research will be held in St. Petersburg, Russia from July 25 to August 10, 2018. The School is co-organized by the National Research University Higher School of Economics and the International Political Science Association (IPSA) to provide essential training in a variety of cutting-edge research methods and techniques.
What is IPSA-HSE?
The School is organized as a series of one-week modules, each devoted to a particular research method. There is a possibility to combine them into a two-week course. Each course contains several lectures and workshops.

Despite the general courses, this year we also offer two specialized courses that can be taken along with the basic ones:
- Introduction to Statistics in R for Beginners (Boris Sokolov, HSE) to be held July 26 – July 28;
- A course on How to Study Russian Politics is to be held as after-lunch sessions from July 27 – August 10.
Participants of the IPSA-HSE Summer School have a chance to combine a high-level professional research training and getting a closer look at St. Petersburg – one of the most beautiful cities of Europe, often called the cultural capital of Russia and included into the UNESCO World Heritage.
IPSA – HSE Summer School continues the IPSA series of summer schools on methods of political and social sciences, St. Petersburg being the first Russian city to host this event. IPSA schools are known for their highest academic level to give students the essential knowledge on theory and practice of political and social research. The IPSA-HSE Summer School instructors represent the very best professorial talent from around the globe offering courses in a broad range of qualitative and quantitative methods.
Each participant will have an opportunity to get ECTS credits for each course taken.
Who can participate?
The IPSA-HSE School is open to all BA, MA, PhD students, as well as faculty members and other professionals. The School may be of most interest to those involved in research activities in social sciences, politics, international relations, public administration and related areas.
We also welcome BA, MA and PhD participants from the same university / institutions who can apply for a discount on tuition fees (please read terms on our website).
